The project started in 2009 and finished in January 2011. During the lifespan of the project several additional sub-projects were initiated. This was done as opportunities, financial and human availability arose during the project.

This project is a clear example of collaboration between institutions worldwide. During the executive phase of the project researchers from ICIPE (Kenya), RBINS and ARC (South Africa) participated to make this project a success. The project has produced some tangible outcomes and might even continue after the end of the project:
