CONFERENCE (hybrid): Monitoring Biodiversity in European Agricultural Landscapes

Status
Confirmed

International Conference

18 September 2025 (full day)
Directorate-General for Environment (DG-ENV), Brussels

Biodiversity in European agricultural landscapes is declining at an alarming rate. To steer effective regulations and protection measures, reliable large-scale data is essential.

The LUCAS Grassland Module 2022 (Land Use and Coverage Area Frame Survey) and the EMBAL 2022 and 2023 campaigns (European Monitoring of Biodiversity in Agricultural Landscapes) are the largest harmonised ecological monitoring campaigns in EU agricultural areas to date.

This conference will present the main outcomes of the analysis of these datasets, providing a comprehensive EU-wide overview of the current state of biodiversity indicators in agricultural areas. The event will also discuss recommendations on potential improvements and streamlining of these monitoring methodologies, with a focus on increasing cost-effectiveness and supporting policy needs.
