In this community talk, we'll explore the Chaparri Ecological Reserve in northern Peru. As the first private protected area governed by a peasant community, Chaparri serves as an inspiring symbol for activists, conservationists, and academics 🌍🌱.

🤝 The participatory action research project of our speakers highlights the need for increased awareness of the complex dilemmas faced by protected areas like Chaparri. They'll also discuss the importance of socially sensitive cooperation and solidarity networks with vulnerable territories and communities .

However, it's important to recognize the limitations and challenges of establishing and maintaining international collaborations 🌐⚠️.

In Peru and across Latin America, the struggle to balance nature conservation and sustainable development sparks passionate debates.

Socio-environmental justice advocates challenge a history of destructive practices linked to modernization, harming nature and indigenous communities 🌿.

Protected areas and other conservation methods are central to the ongoing complex discourse on the human-nature relationship 🏞️🤝.
