In their web-report On the Road to Recovery ?released on the 2nd October 2012 across the EU, BirdLife Europe offers a comprehensive assessment on the progress the EU is making towards the targets set in its EU Biodiversity Strategy, which aims at halting the loss of biodiversity and ecosystem services in the EU by 2020.

Two years after the adoption of the 2020 target and of the EU’s global commitments in Nagoya/Japan, the European BirdLife Partnership undertakes a first stocktaking exercise of policy progress made ‘on the road to’ the 2020 target and intends to repeat this assessment at regular intervals until 2020.

BirdLife Europe concludes that unless the current EU budget reform for 2014-2020 is used to end harmful subsidies in agriculture, fisheries, transport and energy sectors and to increase funding for nature conservation, European governments risk derailing the Strategy only two years after its adoption.
